In anticipation of the State of the Nation Address to be delivered by President Zuma, the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry is looking forward to clarity of the policy direction and implementation on the issues below.

SACCI COPPER THEFT BAROMETER DECEMBER 2010

This is the second monthly issue of the SACCI Copper Theft Barometer introduced in December by the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI). 

The Barometer reflects the experiences of Transnet, Telkom, and Eskom on a current and projected basis and it covers the six months preceding the date of the release and on a year-on-year basis.

“Last year the police and justice system stood head and shoulders above everything else. This year, it's education,” Sacci CEO Neren Rau told media in Johannesburg.  When asked which area of the public service requires most attention, a third of the around 150 business leaders surveyed chose education.

Increasing concern about the cost of the theft of copper to the economy has prompted the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) to develop a Copper Theft Barometer.  The Barometer will measure and monitor the extent of copper cable theft in the country on a monthly basis with the objective of raising the general awareness of the problem and to engage public participation in combating this crime.  Click here to download the full article.
