SACCI ON THE LIFTING OF THE MORATORIUM ON FRACKING

In a statement issued today, the CEO of SACCI, Mr Neren Rau, said:

SACCI notes with interest the lifting of the moratorium on fracking announced today by Cabinet.

While SACCI recognises that there are environmental concerns relating to fracking, the potential environmental consequences must be balanced against the economic benefits that would accrue to the country should it become more self-reliant in terms of energy resources.

Business Confidence Remains Resilient

The SACCI Business Confidence Index (BCI) for August 2012 was released today at the SACCI Offices in Rosebank, Johannesburg. The BCI bounced back by 4.1 index points from the 90.9 in July 2012 to 95.0 in August 2012 – after declining by 4.0 index points in July 2012 to 90.9. The BCI was 3.6 points below the August 2011 reading.

SACCI COMMENT ON WHITE COLLAR CRIME EVENT

In a statement issued today the CEO of SACCI, Mr Neren Rau, said: QUOTE: At a seminar on white collar crime and corruption hosted today by the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) and Nortons Inc. the need for all social partners to cooperate in fighting corruption was highlighted.  The tone for proper conduct had to be set by leadership in business, government and labour in order to fight corruption, otherwise the existing legislation aimed at fighting corruption would prove largely ineffectual.
